Power Walking

This is my 100 word story I got my picture from Pobble.com.

Rising in the early hours of the morning, the sun’s rays shone over the plains like a golden river and revealed an improbable, fanciful sight. Weirdly, the power surged to such high levels that the pylon began to screech, began to wave, it began to move! The dirt frothed at the feet of the pylon as it raised it’s first foot. Thud! The pylon had taken its first  unsteady step. After a while it had gotten used to walking around and set off towards his best friend. As the pylon approached he zapped his friend with a wave of energy.

Do you think that learning  to write a story with a certain amount of words will help you write essays for high school?

Flying High

This is my 100 word story I got my picture from pobble.com.

Perhaps it was because she had wished hard to be as free as they looked when she opened the catch on their tiny door. She did not know why, but one day Sarah rose with the birds as they flew from their tiny cage. It was a weird feeling, to float, to be so weightless. Before long Sarah had deciphered the trick she maneuvered her limbs to move freely through the thick air. It was amazing to feel so free. She drifted over to the window and shoved it open.  Sarah looked down at the fields below and then lept.

Have you ever written a story with a certain amount of words?

Hypnotizing Art 3

This week for art we are learning how to  draw continuous lines, draw curves, rule straight lines, select colours for effect and blend colours.

First we had to practice drawing curves, continuous lines and ruling straight lines on a template that the teacher had given us. Once we finished doing that we practiced our shading on the template that we had finished drawing on. After that the teacher gave us a template that was on an A4 pieces of paper which was our good copy. After we finish our shading we  need to go over all the lines with vivid to make that more bold and pop out of the paper more. Then we trimed the bouder and glued it onto a piece of thick paper. Doing the shading was hard because it was tricky to blend the colors together to make a good gradient. Over all this art was really fun!

Are you good at blending two colors together?

This is my finished art.

Pizza Night

On the 8th of October I celebrated my 12th birthday. To celebrate we made pizza for dinner and we got to choose what we had on our pizza and I got to invite two of my friends over.  My favorite kind of pizza is margherita. After dinner we had some of the birthday cake that my sister had made and decorated for desert. Then we watched “The Lion King”.

I really enjoyed making the pizza because we could put whatever we wanted on our pizza but making the dough was really hard because you have to knead  it for a really long time. Have you ever made home made pizza before?

A beginners guide to measuring area and perimeter.

This week we have been learning to calculate area and perimeter. In this task we had to  calculate area and perimeter of different sized windows, then we had to find out why the windows were priced how they where. This is my groups DLO. Finding how the window shop had priced the windows was hard but finding the area and perimeter of the windows was easy. Can you calculate the area and perimeter of a shape?

Hypnotizing art

This week for art we are learning how to  draw continuous lines, draw curves, rule straight lines, select colours for effect and Blend Colours. First we had to practice drawing curves, continuous lines and Ruling straight lines on a template that the teacher had gave us. Once we finished doing the practice activity we could draw on a bigger template which was on an A4 piece of paper. After that we could color our art in, but I am not up to that part yet. Drawing the continuous linse was rather easy but when we had to start ruling all the lines it was a bit tricky because my ruler keeped slipping. Over all this art was really fun!!

Are you good at art?

Pounamu Pendants

This week for maths we are doing measurement. Using a picture of a pounamu on  a grid  that was 9 by 15 there were 135 squares all together. We had to figure out what the percentage of the grid was a Pendant. First I figured out how many squares of the grid where all pounamu. Some of the squares were Pendant and background so I had to add two squares together, like one square was ¾ background and ¼ Pendant so I added it to a square that had ¼  background and ¾  Pendant  because that made one complete  square of Pendant. Then once we finished finding out how many squares of Pendant we had to find the percentage. To find the percentage multiply the answer by 100, E.G - 65 (Pendant) ÷ 135 = 0.48 x 100 = 48. At first finding the percentage was hard but it got easier the more I tried it. Do you know how to find the percentage of something?

Newton’s three laws of motion explained

Last week for writing we were learning to use structure and language features of an explain piece of writing. I wrote my  explanation on how Newton’s three laws of motion apply to our bottle rockets that we have been making for the wonder project. This is my explanation. I really enjoyed writing this explanation because I knew what I wanted to write and I also knew  what all of Newton’s laws of motion are. Thinking of all the words I was going to use to make my writing easy to understand was hard.

How the three The Three Laws of Motion  make the bottle rocket to fly.

This  explanation is going to explain how Newton’s three laws of motion act upon a bottle rocket.

Newton's First law of motion states that every object will remain at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. This law applies to our rocket because our rocket will stay at rest until the unbalanced force (thrust) propels our rocket up.

Newton's second law of motion is F = ma, or force is equal to mass times acceleration, this law involves our rocket because the heavier our rocket was the more acceleration we needed to get it off the ground.

Newton's Third law of motion states that every action has an opposite and equal reaction. When involving this law with our rocket it applies because the air pressure(thrust) pushes the air downwards which is the equal reaction then the rocket launches up which is the opposite reaction.

Newton's first law of motion helps the rocket move. Newton's Second law helps get the rocket off the ground, and Newton’s third law of motion helps our rocket go up. This is why the three laws of motion are important when you launch your rocket.

Did you learn what Newton’s three laws of motion are?

I am Hope!

A few weeks ago we participated in a Treasure Hunt at Paihia School, to fundraise for the I Am Hope foundation which helps kiwi kids who have mental health problems by providing  free counselling and support when they need it. We all had to bring a gold coin if we wanted to do the Treasure Hunt. Also instead of finding prizes around the school the principal hid little pictures of gumboots. There were numbers on the back of the pictures of gumboots that represented a prize we would get. We had as much time as we needed to find all of the pictures of gumboots. Also a rule was when we found one of the gumboots we had to take is to the principal so she knew who to give the prize to at the end. When all of the prizes were found the principal called our name if we got a prize. I found two of the gumboots, my two prizes were eskimo pies. Over all the Treasure Hunt was really fun. Have you ever done a Treasure Hunt?

Going to Extraordinary Lengths

This week  in Te Ngahere we have been learning about prime numbers. The purpose of my blog post is to teach people about prime numbers. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by one and itself, e.g - 7, you can only divide seven by one and seven (itself) that means that is is a prime number. For our maths activity we had to find all of the prime numbers to 100. After we found out all of the prime numbers we then had to make a DLO based on how we solved our problem. At first figuring out the prime numbers were easy but as the numbers got bigger finding the prime numbers got a bit harder. This is my DLO. Did you learn anything from my blog post?

Important information that you should know, if you own a chromebook

This Term  in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the Kawa of Care. The purpose of my blog post is to teach people about the Kawa of care. The Kawa of care  is is a contract that we need to follow in order to keep our chromebooks safe. For the Kawa of care we had to make a DLO to show the rules you need to follow, e.g - never have food or drink near your chromebook. Then we need to screencastify our DLO. This is my DLO. I didn’t learn very much because I have done the Kawa of Care before, so I already do every thing to keep my chromebook safe. Do you have a chromebook, if so do you follow the Kawa of care?

Comedy

This week inTe Nga Here we have been making movies for the short film festival. Our movie is a remake of Back to the Future. When we started to make our movie we had to make a plan for what our movie was going to be about. First the teacher told us to do was tuse what type of film we are going to make. Our movie is comedy and fantasy. After we chose our film type we needed to write the script. We also had to make a list of props we are going to use in our movie.  Then we decided where we were going to film the movie - Location, we are going to film our movie on the field and in the school Whare. After that we thought of what sounds we are going to use in our film and wrote them down. Finally we wrote the title and credits.

Writing the script was challenging because we  had to decide what the characters in the movie where going to say. Deciding what type of film our film was going to be was easy. Have you ever made a short film for the film festival ?

Mosaic Art

This week for art we have been making mosaic art on our chromebook. First we opened a google drawing and filed it in other. After that we needed to find a picture that we wanted to make a mosaic out of. Then we used a polyline tool to make different shapes over the top of the photo, then color the shapes to match the color on the photo. At first making all of the shapes was hard because the polyline tool was challenging to use. The shapes also  had to be quite big for the polyline tool to work. After I found out how to use the polyline is was really easy. Matching the color was also rather easy. Have you ever made a mosaic on a chromebook or computer?

Wonder project

This term in Te Ngahere our teachers have organised two engineers to come to our school and teach us about rockets and jobs that you can have to make/test rockets, over the next 8 weeks. This week they introduced themselves to us and told us about what their jobs are.  Troy is a civil engineer, Civil engineers design major transportation projects and supervise them. At the moment he is working on ways to transport stormwater so the towns don’t flood.  Gustavo is a Pomologists,  a Pomologist is someone that works with fruit. Right now he is creating more varieties of kiwifruit. Gustavo and his fellow Pomologists created the red kiwi fruit. When Gustavo told us how different Kinds kiwifruit where made it  was really interesting and very complicated. I had no idea how

complicated  making different kinds of kiwifruit was.

Did you know that there is such a thing as a red kiwi fruit?

A New Language

In Te Ngahere this term we have been learning how to read a short book in Te Reo Maori.  The book was called Nga Mahi Parekareka kei te MaraeI was good at pronouncing the words in Te Reo when I knew how they sounded. Saying all the words in a sentence was hard because it was hard remembering all of the sounds that the letters make. Some of the words that I found easy to say are: nga, Tamariki, ratou, ako and haka.  Some of the words that I found hard to say were: Kaimakamaka, mahi, rehia and potaka.

Can you speak Te Reo?

Matariki !!!

In Te Ngahere this week we are celebrating Matariki, a cool activity
that the teachers have been doing for three years, was to color/
decorate a paper feather. Then write what we wanted to be when we
were older and our dreams, then when we were older we could look
at the back of our feather and read our dreams. This is how I decor-
ated my feather.

What was hard? Keping in the lines and and not having
the same color too close to each other was hard.  What was easy?
thinking of  creative ways to color in my feather was easy.

How do you celebrate Matariki?
