Wonder project

This term in Te Ngahere our teachers have organised two engineers to come to our school and teach us about rockets and jobs that you can have to make/test rockets, over the next 8 weeks. This week they introduced themselves to us and told us about what their jobs are.  Troy is a civil engineer, Civil engineers design major transportation projects and supervise them. At the moment he is working on ways to transport stormwater so the towns don’t flood.  Gustavo is a Pomologists,  a Pomologist is someone that works with fruit. Right now he is creating more varieties of kiwifruit. Gustavo and his fellow Pomologists created the red kiwi fruit. When Gustavo told us how different Kinds kiwifruit where made it  was really interesting and very complicated. I had no idea how

complicated  making different kinds of kiwifruit was.

Did you know that there is such a thing as a red kiwi fruit?

A New Language

In Te Ngahere this term we have been learning how to read a short book in Te Reo Maori.  The book was called Nga Mahi Parekareka kei te MaraeI was good at pronouncing the words in Te Reo when I knew how they sounded. Saying all the words in a sentence was hard because it was hard remembering all of the sounds that the letters make. Some of the words that I found easy to say are: nga, Tamariki, ratou, ako and haka.  Some of the words that I found hard to say were: Kaimakamaka, mahi, rehia and potaka.

Can you speak Te Reo?

Matariki !!!

In Te Ngahere this week we are celebrating Matariki, a cool activity
that the teachers have been doing for three years, was to color/
decorate a paper feather. Then write what we wanted to be when we
were older and our dreams, then when we were older we could look
at the back of our feather and read our dreams. This is how I decor-
ated my feather.

What was hard? Keping in the lines and and not having
the same color too close to each other was hard.  What was easy?
thinking of  creative ways to color in my feather was easy.

How do you celebrate Matariki?
