Cross Country
Last week in Te Ngahere we have been training for Cross Country. We had to run around our school two times. We did this every day and the teachers had a stopwatch, when we finished two laps the teacher told us how long we took. This week we have to run three laps around the school. My first time was 6:16 min, my second time was 5:27 min and my third time was 5:18. Next week we have to run 5 laps I think that I will take 8-9 minutes.

Toku Wanau
In Te Ngahere, our class has been making a slide presentation about our whanau. We have been learning about taku whanau. For taku whanau we used a slide show to introduce our whanau to others. First we had to get the maori kupu right then put it in the right place. After that we had to get picture to represent our family members. Then we had to get a buddy and screencastify it. Screencastify is this app on your chromebook that videos your screen and voice. This is my work taku whanau work.

Marble Challenge
In our class we have been making marble ramps. When we finished making the ramps, our class had a challenge.
The challenge was whose marble stopped the closest to 110 cm from the end of the ramp.
The challenge was whose marble stopped the closest to 110 cm from the end of the ramp.
What was something your group did well?
My group wrote the instructions clearly for the other group to read, and we also put notes on the book and
pencil box to help the other group to construct our ramp. Our group was working together and collaborating will.
pencil box to help the other group to construct our ramp. Our group was working together and collaborating will.
What is something you could have done better?
Our group could have folded the cardboard more clearly because when the marble rolled down the ramp it keeps
bouncing off the edge of the ramp.
bouncing off the edge of the ramp.
How close did your marble get to 110 cm? Did the marble go further than 110 cm? Or shorter?
The marbel went further than 110
Why do you think your ramp was or was not successful? Why? Why not?
Our ramp was unsuccessful because our ramp became a variable because in our practise we didn’t roll it the
same.
same.
How clear were your instructions? What was something you explained well? What was something that
needed to be clearer?
needed to be clearer?
I think that my group wrote clear instruction, thay where qit detailed.
If you had an opportunity to design a new ramp. What would you change? Improve?
I would make the folds on the ramp a lot clearer so the marble wont bounce of the edge of the ramp.

Math
WALT - solve multiplication problems by doubling and halving.
This week our class has been learning to use doubling and halving to solve big multiplication problems like
5 x 44 = ___ - double the the 5 and half the 44 = 10 x 22 = 220. This strategy make big multiplication problems
easier to work out. We had to work out lots of hard problems using this strategy, it was very easy for me to use this
strategy after a little while once I had got the hang of it. I did not find this strategy hard to us.

After we had done all the evidence we had to make a DLO to explain step by step how to use this strategy for
multiplication problems. I find making this DLO hard.
This is my finished DLO

Our identity
On Monday the 18th of February, Whaea Monika and Whaea Kerry came to our school to talk to the
year sixes about our identity. In the Whare we were using Tinkercad and Paint 3D to make a Ngahere
so Whaea Kerry could make it into a Virtual Reality video. We got into our pairs and went on Tinkercad,
so Whaea Kerry could make it into a Virtual Reality video. We got into our pairs and went on Tinkercad,
we had to design and create a tree and after we had made our trees we went onto Paint 3D and made
some native birds to go in our Ngahere. We had to show Whaea Monika our work so that she could save
it for us.
We looked at what Whaea Kerry was making in Virtual Reality, then we went onto a carving program
called Sculpt GL and sculpted something that shows our family values .I really enjoyed making the 3D
trees and birds because we could make what designs we wanted and we didn’t all make the same thing.
I could have made my tree and bird better next time by making it neater and more life like. I really enjoyed
doing this, and it would be really cool If we could do it again.

Science
A few weeks ago four people came to our school, to teach the school about science.
There names are Taiyo, kaitlyn, Nina and Juan. They come from the university of Auckland.
They made the colors of a rainbow out of different chemicals, Nina also made a fire out of two chemicals
mixed together. Kaitlyn poured dry ice into a box and but a balloon in it and when she took it out it was
deflated and when it touched the air it blow up again!!

The thing that I learnt was that there is something colder than the south pole (dry ice.).
